I had to have a go. This is a 4 panel mosaic. This was an experiment to see if anything could be gained by going to silly focal lengths. The answer was "No".
More resolution seems to be gained by stepping up to 3,200 mm (F16) with my Tal200k. Going beyond that just creates more work and frustration. Diffraction, atmospherics and other issues make it pointless.

Tried at 8000mm. Didn't capture any more detail than at 3200mm. Just got a smaller area.
