Kite

I've recently discovered a new location near Hannington which is teeming with Red Kites, and a few buzzards to boot.  This morning I headed over to see if I could take advantage of the sunlight.  As it turn out,  it would be better when the  wind is in the South.  The birds spend most of their time pointing straight into the wind - sometimes hovering for several seconds. If the wind is from the North, then they spend most of the time with their heads in the shade!

I thought that I was photographing a kite with some carrion, or live prey.  Just my luck to get a vegan red kite!

I was really surprised to see him sit almost perfectly still in mid air while he pecked away at his meal.  I never knew that they would dine aloft.
